NICHTS ..... or better "Da ist nichts!", is the rather late continuation of a series of tracks with German lyrics. The series began in 2001 with a commissioned work for the Donau-Festival in Krems with text fragments by Johann Nestroy, who wrote against the Biedermeier era with mockery and irony, and is revived 20 years later in troubled times.
Many voices whisper, shout, lament in a flat that is increasingly becoming a prison. But it is not pandemic house arrest but one's own indolence, bad character that isolates and makes lonely. The indolent express self-pity, anger and longing. The house mind goes on the rampage. The house spirits scoff. The core of the being a nothing. No insight, no remorse. Long live the "common" household mind! Tired package tourists in their own lives become angry when the freedom of consumer experiences is restricted. The state, an otherwise hasty tour guide, recently demands the fulfilment of solidary duties. The defence of private freedom turns into a liberation from reason with the 3rd beer. The fourth beer is free, but tastes of nothing.
The world simply keeps on turning, regardless of private sensitivities. The private grievances remain: Why don't you call me?!
